Description of the Ship

The ETHEL VON BRIXHAM was laid around 1890 from Brixham, southern England, as a sailing trawler to Kiel. For decades she fished in the waters between the Norwegian Sea and the Biscay under sails. This area requires a particularly stable, high on the wind and fast sailing ship. In the twenties she arrived in Norway and worked in the fishery and freight transport, until she was rigged in 1981 in Germany for a schooner.

The ETHEL VON BRIXHAM operates as a German traditional sailing ship. The main goals are the preservation of the ship and the mediation of traditional seamanship. Even after some modifications, the ship has retained its original character on and below deck. During the sailing trip the guests are actively involved in the nautical and maritime processes. The crew of the ETHEL VON BRIXHAM welcomes you on board
