A holiday combined with bike and ship is pure relaxation. Cycling in groups, as a pair or alone, however you like it. Whether short or long stages, the journey is the destination! Save the trouble of carrying your luggage on your bicycle as well as the daily struggle to find a place to stay. On this trip you will experience beautiful landscapes and the magic of the Wadden Sea and Ijsselmeer.
The dates of the Bike and Sail trips in the Netherlands in 2020 will be announced in the near future. Please stay tuned. Thank you for your patience!
Day 1, Friday: Embarkation until 8 pm on board of your ship in the Dutch port of Harlingen. Dinner and accommodation on board.
Day 2, Saturday: After a briefing and instructions on board, we cast off, hoist the sails and sail towards the island of Terschelling. Once in Western Terschelling (capital of the island), you can explore the port city and its surroundings.
Day 3, Sunday: Today, you get to know the island Terschelling by bike – this island is known as the most beautiful nature reserve in the Netherlands. You will ride through forest and dune landscape along the North Sea coast via West aan Zee, Midsland aan Zee, Formerum aan Zee to Osterend (the island’s east end). From there, you will ride back through dune landscapes using bike paths to Midsland and/or (on the mud flats side) to Western Terschelling. On the way, you will have time to sniff the sea air on the beach or visit a shipwreck museum. Your ship will remain in the harbor of Western Terschelling.
Day 4, Monday: You will sail (2 to 3 hours) to the island Vlieland, another beautiful Wadden island. The chances are high that you will see seals lying on sandbanks on the way. After lunch we cycle along the Wadden Sea side, past the lighthouse to Posthuis. Through dune landscape and forests, you cycle on the North Sea coast back to Vlieland. There is still enough time to discover the town of Vlieland.
Day 5, Tuesday: On today’s timetable there is a day at sea. The crossing from the island Vlieland to the island Texel leads through the nature reserve Wadden Sea. You might catch a glimpse of porpoises between Vlieland and Texel. During the sailing voyage, lasting 6 to 7 hours, you can help to set the sails, to steer the ship or you can learn to read a nautical chart. Depending on the time of arrival, there will be time to explore the area of Texel.
Day 6, Wednesday: Going by bicycle, you will scout out the island Texel with its town Oosterend, ride further into the north of the island to De Cocksdorp, to De Koog. Continuing your journey on the North Sea side you pass Den Burg and Den Hoorn and ride back to the harbor Oudeschild.
Day 7, Thursday: To spend just one day on Texel would be too short to get to know the island. That is why we stay one more day. Today, you can ride to the nature reserve De Slufter or to Horspolders. In Oudeschild, the ship will be waiting for you. In the afternoon, the crossing (approximately 3 hours) to the port city Den Oever (mainland), right on the Afsluitdijk (a dike), will take place.
Day 8, Friday: We sail along the dike back to Harlingen. On the way, we stop briefly, so that the dike can be visited. At 3 pm we are back in Harlingen where the disembarkation takes place.
Program according to itinerary, accommodation on board in cabins according to description, full board, welcome drink, bed linen and one-time towels, cabin service, maps, daily bike / tour meetings, harbor fees.
